Jade Buddha Soap

Looks like jade but gets its color from amla oil and the green mica colorant. Recommended as a shampoo bar but can be used as an all-over soap.

Jade Buddha Soap

Ingredients:

16 ounces clear soap base

1 Tablespoon amla oil*

Green mica

20 drops cedarwood essential oil [optional]

Mold:

3 five-ounce Buddha molds

Instructions:

Slice up soap base into small cubes and melt. Just before it's fully melted add the mica. Stir well. Add amla and essential oil. Pour into molds. Spritz away any bubbles with rubbing alcohol. Allow soap to harden in fridge, freezer, or remain at room temperature. Remove from molds. Make sure soap is at room temperature before wrapping. Wrap in cling wrap and label.

*Amla is called Indian Gooseberry and is an Ayruvedic herb that has been used for centuries to condition and help with hair growth. It can be bought in powdered form and is green in color. Personally, I find the Vadik Herbs brand to be the best and it can be found on Amazon and is reasonably priced. Amla oil is usually massaged on your scalp for about 15 minutes to overnight, and rinsed out. In this case you just use the Jade Buddha soap as a shampoo. Vadik Herbs contains sesame seed oil and amla; other brands may contain mineral oil. Here's a direct link: Amla Hair Oil at Amazon

Another word of caution is that the smell of amla is quite strong. It's hard to describe, but it has a distinctive herbal aroma. Cedarwood, lavender, tea tree or any other beneficial essential oil is recommended if you're not fond of the amla aroma.
